About the role

The Car Nerd is looking for an experienced Automotive Technician to join its busy and highly regarded workshop in Cabra, near Newry.

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

The successful applicant should have solid general mechanical experience and be confident carrying out everyday servicing, maintenance, fault-finding and mechanical repairs to a high standard.

Experience in vehicle diagnostics would be a strong advantage. A capable general mechanic with the right attitude, good practical ability and an interest in developing their diagnostic knowledge is encouraged to apply.

The Car Nerd is known for taking a thorough and methodical approach to vehicle problems. This role would suit someone who takes pride in their work, thinks carefully about the job in front of them and wants to understand why a fault has occurred rather than simply replacing parts unnecessarily.

You will be joining a working environment where technical knowledge is respected, diagnostics is taken seriously and difficult faults are approached with patience, evidence and the right equipment.

The role may involve:
• General vehicle servicing and routine maintenance
• Mechanical diagnosis and repairs
• Inspecting vehicles and identifying faults accurately
• Carrying out repairs safely and to a consistently high standard
• Using workshop information, diagnostic equipment and technical data
• Recording findings and communicating them clearly to the team
• Supporting specialist diagnostic, DPF and auto-electrical work where appropriate
• Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working area
• Working independently while also contributing to the wider workshop team

The ideal person will be dependable, technically minded and comfortable taking responsibility for the quality of their own work.

You do not need to arrive as a finished diagnostic specialist. However, you should bring genuine mechanical experience, a willingness to think through problems properly and an interest in continuing to develop your abilities.

For the right technician, this is an opportunity to join one of Northern Ireland’s best-known independent automotive businesses and work in a workshop where skill, problem-solving and proper repairs remain at the heart of what they do.

This would be a genuinely valuable opportunity for any technician who wants to broaden their experience and deepen their technical understanding.
Working alongside a business known for tackling complex faults properly will provide exposure to diagnostic thinking, testing methods and real-world problem-solving that can be difficult to gain in a conventional workshop.
The successful technician will not only bring their existing mechanical ability to the role, but will also have the opportunity to develop knowledge and experience that can strengthen their career for years to come.

Working hours:
Monday to Friday
9am to 5pm
